Turgutreis is the second largest town on the peninsula

Turgutreis is one of the places where you can witness the most beautiful sunset in Bodrum
Turgut Reis (born 1485 – died June 23, 1565) was a Turkish seaman who served as an admiral in the Ottoman navy and became known as the conqueror of Tripoli. He served as Beylerbeyi and was also the Bey of Tripoli. The name of the admiral, who was born here, was officially given to this place in 1972.
Looking out to sea from here, you can see the Greek islands such as Kos and Kalymnos.
Today, Turgutreis, located on the western coast of the Bodrum Peninsula, attracts both locals and international visitors with its unique charm and breathtaking nature. About 20 km west of Bodrum, Turgutreis has transformed from a small fishing village into a lively, modern holiday destination while still maintaining its traditional character.
The true highlight of Turgutreis is its stunning coastline, which ranges from long sandy beaches to picturesque coves. The turquoise waters of the Aegean are not only a magnet for sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts but also invite moments of tranquility and reflection as the waves gently lap against the rocks. The sunsets in Turgutreis are particularly magical. As the sun slowly sets behind the neighboring Greek islands, the sky is painted in a kaleidoscope of warm colors – a sight that is truly unforgettable.
However, Turgutreis offers more than just breathtaking nature. The town has developed into a vibrant center of Turkish life. The weekly market in Turgutreis is a true experience – a place where the lively hustle and bustle of locals and tourists turn shopping into something unique. Here, you can discover fresh local products such as vegetables, fruits, spices, and olive oil, as well as handmade souvenirs and artworks that reflect the cultural heritage of the region.
The local cuisine in Turgutreis is also a delight for the senses. From fresh seafood to traditional Turkish dishes, the region offers a variety of culinary experiences, enhanced by the warm hospitality of the locals. In the cozy restaurants along the coast, you can dine in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the view of the sea.
Despite modernization and growth in recent years, Turgutreis has preserved its authenticity. The blend of tradition and modernity defines the town’s charm. Here, you can stay in an elegant hotel or a modern villa, yet still experience the simple life of fishermen and farmers in the surrounding villages.
Anyone who spends time in Turgutreis will quickly realize that it is a place of harmony – a place where nature, culture, and modern comforts blend seamlessly. It is the perfect retreat for travelers seeking both the tranquility of nature and the vibrant life and hospitality of a Turkish coastal town. Turgutreis is more than just a destination; it is an experience for all the senses.
What is the sea like in Turgutreis?
The sea in Turgutreis carries a special magic that makes the place so unique. Compared to other regions, it is often gently wavy, creating a soothing and almost meditative atmosphere. Imagine standing on the shore, gazing at the water – the waves gently caressing the beach, like nature’s whispering lullaby. The image of stormy, wild waves is far from reality here; instead, you will find a sea that is calm and inviting, yet allows for a playful dance with gentle ripples.
The sea in Turgutreis is a place of contrasts. Looking to the left, the water is crystal clear, almost as if you could see all the way to the bottom, as if the ocean itself is sharing a secret with you. But on the right side of the beach, the sea takes on a soft, mystical haze, as if it is wrapped in a touch of the past. This slight cloudiness is the play of the seabed and the gentle waves – a fascinating interaction of nature that enhances the magic of the place. Yet, just a few steps further, the water becomes clearer again, and the seabed feels like a carpet of the finest sand.
It is this unique interplay of clarity and mystery, of tranquility and gentle movement, that makes the sea in Turgutreis a place where one can get lost, sink into thought, and at the same time feel a sense of peace and security. Here, the sea becomes a sanctuary for both body and soul.
