Turgut Reis (born 1485 – died June 23, 1565) was a Turkish seaman who served as an admiral in the Ottoman navy and became known as the conqueror of Tripoli. He served as Beylerbeyi and was also the Bey of Tripoli. The name of the admiral, who was born here, was officially given to this place in 1972.
