Milas–Bodrum Airport

Official Name: Milas–Bodrum Airport (BJV)

Turkish: Milas–Bodrum Havalimanı

Milas Bodrum Airport

In Turkish, there are two common words for “airport”:

  • Havaalanı: “Hava” (air) + “alanı” (area)
  • Havalimanı: A combination of “Hava” (air) and “liman” (port) – similar to the English word “airport”

Milas–Bodrum Airport is a key hub for charter flights and low-cost airlines, especially during the summer season from April to November. During this time, many international flights arrive. In winter, the airport mainly handles domestic flights.

Public transportation such as trains, metro, or intercity buses is not available at the airport. However, private transfers can be arranged.

Short History of the Airport

The “Milas-Bodrum Airport” project began in 1994. Two main challenges shaped the early phase:

  • Name: To represent both Milas and Bodrum, a double name was chosen.
  • Environmental concerns: Nature and environmental issues were eventually resolved.

On April 1st, 1997, the first terminal for domestic flights opened. A year later, an international terminal followed (capacity: 2 million passengers/year). Due to rising passenger numbers, a modern new international terminal with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year was opened in 2012.

Services & Connections at the Airport

  • By Car: Easily accessible via highway D330. Clearly signposted exit.
